Welcome · to the tower

A listed landmark you can call home.

The water tower of Montabaur’s old railway station was built in 1879, carefully restored and converted into living space around 1990, and thoroughly renovated in 2023. The shape, the staircases and the views have stayed – joined by everything that makes a stay comfortable today, from the new bathroom to air conditioning.

Whether it’s a weekend for two, a break in the Westerwald or a stopover on the ICE line: here you stay in a building with a story, yet everything is only minutes away.

01 · History

One tower, many lives.

From railway water tower to family home, holiday apartment and smart tower – the stops along the line.

  1. 1879

    The tower is built

The water tower opposite Montabaur station: the tank at the top, the shaft below. Towers like this kept water ready for the steam locomotives.

  2. 1940

    The motorway arrives

On 15 June 1940 the Limburg – Dierdorf section of today’s A3 opens. By then the tower has already stood for 61 years.

  3. 1990

    Restoration and conversion

The water tower is fully restored and converted into living space. The historic fabric is preserved and the monument gets a second life.

  4. 2000

The station closes, the ICE arrives

On 6 July 2000 the last passenger train calls at the old town station opposite; the new station takes over, and from 2002 the ICE stops there. The old station building now houses flats and a wood-stove showroom.

  5. 2023

    Renovated throughout

A new bathroom, fresh paint throughout, much of the technology replaced, kitchen and wooden floors refurbished, plus an 11 kW wallbox for guests. Then the tower begins its life as a holiday apartment – and soon earns Superhost status on Airbnb.

  6. 2026

    Air conditioning and smart controls

Modern Bosch air conditioning (Climate 7000i) on both floors and central smart controls for cooling, heating and outdoor lighting – with a touchscreen for guests.

02 · Inside the tower

Three levels, one home.

The apartment follows the tower: the cellar at the bottom, the bedroom in the shaft, and right at the top, in the former water tank, the living room, kitchen and bathroom.

06 · Guest reviews

What guests take home.

The tower offered a wonderful combination of historic building and modern interior design. The conversion was done with great attention to detail and clever architectural solutions. The parking space by the door and the restaurants within walking distance were very practical too.

07 · FAQ

Yes. Two private parking spaces, free of charge, are right in front of the steps. An 11 kW wallbox there charges your electric car – you can activate it with a standard charging card or by credit card.

Is the apartment suitable for children?

Unfortunately not. The tower’s unusual architecture and its many stairs are not safe for children. For this reason we also don’t provide extra beds or cots, and kindly ask you not to bring children.

Are pets allowed?

No – not even as an exception. To keep the apartment hygienic and allergy-friendly for every guest, this applies to all animals without exception.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 3 pm, on Sundays from 5 pm. Check-out is by 11 am. On request, and depending on bookings, we’re happy to arrange more flexible times. Before you arrive you will receive a personal access code, so you can come and go on your own around the clock during your stay.

What kind of coffee machine is there?

A Nespresso machine. Please bring your own capsules – supermarkets and a chemist are just a few minutes’ walk away. There is also a kettle for tea.

How far is the old town?

The old town with its half-timbered houses, restaurants and castle is about a quarter of an hour on foot, or a few minutes by car.
